There is a house which I pass on my way to work which never fails to lift my mood. It is one of those houses that stands on a corner plot where two streets meet and has nearly all of it’s garden space at the front. And what a garden! Every inch is carefully tended, producing a sight that gladdens the eye and inspires thoughts of horticulture! It is truly a riot of colour, with plants of so many shades jostling for position among their fellows. One feature that I particularly like and eagerly look forward to each year is the array of hanging baskets. There is a small tree growing in the garden which has six equidistant branches leaving the trunk about four feet up. Each year the gardener hangs a planted basket on each of these limbs; an idea which had never occurred to me before and which I now look forward to attempting myself when we have our own garden. The finished effect is nothing short of spectacular; a ring of colour just on the other side of the fence from the public footpath.
*I was going to post a couple of pictures of Cardiff in Bloom here, but I didn’t have a chance to take any photos of the city council’s horticultural displays today, so you can look forward to that treat another day!
