Swimming progress

I swam again on Wednesday and yesterday morning, and between the two visits managed 144 lengths. So I’m now up to 188 lengths completed with 1220 to go! Woohoo! I’m glad that I got a good start on this with my first week going so well. I’m aiming to go to the pool Monday, Wednesday and Friday next week as well, so hopefully my total will look even healthier come next Saturday.

Exercise

I’ve signed up for the swimming challenge I mentioned in my last post. It started yesterday and I managed to get to the pool yesterday and do 44 lengths to start it off. I would have liked to have done more, but the pool was really busy and so I couldn’t shoot up and down like I usually would - I had to stop at the end of each length to make sure that I didn’t crash into anyone! Anyway, the gym is also going well - I can actually jog a bit now, which I couldn’t really do a couple of weeks ago, which is a marked improvement. Swimming again in the morning though, as I want to get some more lengths under my belt. I’m aiming at 250 by the end of next week, so I’ve really got to plug away at it. I’m also hoping that this will contribute towards my effort to lose a stone by the end of November. Watch this space!

Gym-bunnies

So, how many of us go through the ritual joining-of-the-gym at the start of a new school year? I think it could even beat New Year as a time of new starts and new regimes. I’ve joined my local gym now that my youngest is at school in the mornings, and plan on walking up there as many days as I can manage after the school run to make the most of my time alone and get fit and healthier. I’m almost looking forward to Monday morning so that I can go again!

I’m also wondering about taking part in the Aspire Channel Swim this year. This is a sponsored swimming challenge where you swim the equivalent of the channel (1408 lengths in my case) in your local pool over a twelve week period. I’ve worked this out to be roughly 120 lengths per week. Achievable, for someone with very low fitness levels? Time will tell! I can usually managed forty to fifty lengths, given a quiet time at the pool and about three quarters of an hour to do it in, so I’ll just have to make time to go and actually do it now!
