So November is over. It passed by rather more quickly than I thought it would, and now I’m in the uncomfortable position of having twenty two days until Christmas, with approximately six weeks worth of projects to complete.
It’s really very strange, but I feel disproportionately guilty that I haven’t been writing more of the book since midnight on Thursday. Apparently this is very common after NaNoWriMo finishes, and can sometimes take months to pass! I don’t somehow think that it would take me that long to get over the feelings, but there is certainly a period of readjustment. My therapy will be the extensive cleaning and clearing out of old and unwanted toys which will be taking place over the next week in preparation for the Christmas decorating next weekend and the mounds of new toys which will inevitably need house space in only a few short weeks.
As yet I haven’t decided whether to even look at the book again, or whether just to disregard it as any more than a November project which has now come to an end. Lulu.com are offering NaNoWriMo winners a free paperback copy of their book, but the deadline for this is not until the middle of January, and so I think I’d be fairly safe to leave any decision about whether I’d like to see ‘Shortcut to the Highlife’ in print until the end of the month.

Well done on the NaNoWriMo word total! 163185 words? I’m sure that’s more than I’ve written since entering education!
What is your novel about? The office politics of a small second floor document services department?
I am genuinely very impressed, do you plan to do it again next year? I will have to join you as I will have graduated and will be fretfully unemployed.
It’s a chick-lit, and was more a project to engage my brain than something intended to produce publishable material! I do intend to enter again next year, although I hope to write something vaguely historical next November, and use the intervening months for research. I’d love to write something about a made up world, but my imagination just isn’t up to the job right now! Oh well, maybe I’ll manage something like that in 2008!
Something else that might interest you is a screenplay writing challenge which will take place in June – will your exams be over by then? It’s called Script Frenzy, and the website will be at http://www.scriptfrenzy.org when they finally release it!
And we’ve moved down in the world – not content with housing us on the second floor of the tallest building in Cardiff (I don’t care who says the BT building is taller!) we’ve now been moved down to floor 1! Talk about a room without a view!
